CLISSOLD ARMS
(Map Ref 008).
105 Fortis Green, N2 9HR
Fuller's London Pride; Harveys Best; Timothy Taylor’s
Landlord; Wells Bombardier.
In February 2006 CAMRA initiated a programme to
celebrate the impact of pubs in history (Pubs in Time) and the Clissold
Arms was only one of two pubs in London to receive a prestigious plaque
commemorating the fact that the pub was the site of the first public
performance of Ray and Dave Davies, the founding members of the Kinks,
in December 1960. Prior to a huge refurbishment there was considerable
noise in the local press about a possible loss of the Kinks memorabilia.
Concern was more than accurate as said memorabilia has duly disappeared.
Probably safe to assume the plaque has gone as well. Has re-opened as a
gastro-pub under the ownership of JoBo Developments who purchased it in
early-2007, after it had closed in late-2006; re-opened April 2008.
Interior totally gutted - absolutely all features, furnishings, fixtures
and fittings permanently removed. Given an overtly modern, up-market
refurbishment: really a restaurant with a bar. Bar counter to the front
bar is no longer in place, replaced with a wall. The pub has a car park
and the nearest tube is East Finchley.
